Causality-Guided Machine Learning for Retinoblastoma Survival Prediction: Development and Comparative Evaluation Using SEER. Shijie Chen, Takashi Ishida*. Medical Sciences 14, 389 (2026). doi: 10.3390/medsci14030389

Retinoblastoma is a rare pediatric cancer, and survival data for it are limited in both sample size and event count, which makes conventional feature selection unstable. In this work we combined univariate Cox analysis, causal structure learning with the PC algorithm, and LASSO screening to select a small set of structurally and prognostically robust predictors from 1015 SEER patients. Survival models trained on the selected features were more parsimonious and more stable than those built with LASSO alone, with a random survival forest achieving the best discrimination.
